10 Things You Will Miss When Your Child is a Tween

Joshua is 12 now and has been for a while. Jordan is 10 and will soon turn 11. I am quickly learning all the things I miss from when they were younger. Don’t get me wrong, there are a few perks to them being older and more self-sufficient, but there are so many things I miss. With no more babies, toddlers or even pre-schoolers in the house anymore, I sometimes don’t know what to do with myself. Hug those little ones tightly though moms and enjoy every last second, because you will miss it when it’s gone.

1. Random hugs and kisses any time of day.
2. Adorable pictures drawn just for you.
3. “I love you mommy” said when they don’t actually want something.
4. The funny way they say words incorrectly.
5. The look on their face when they discover something new.
6. Being a superhero.
7. The ability to quickly kiss away their pain.
8. A lack of attitude. You thought a two year old’s fits were bad? You have no idea.
9. Receiving answers other than “Yeah” and “Okay.”
10. Being cool enough to be seen with them in public.

Do you have tweens or teens yet? If so, what do you miss the most?

  1. Mine are 12, 14, 16, and 19. Yes, I miss all those things and more. I was just looking at the Sunday newspaper sale ads and all the Christmas Toy booklets remembering how when my kids were little they couldn't wait to look at all the toys and circle their favorites. It's weird when you stop buying toys for Christmas, LOL!

  2. My oldest is nine and she doesn't tell me she loves me as much as she did when she was younger 🙁

  3. I'm very lucky, my son is 15 and he is the king of #1 meaning he always gives me hugs and kisses for no reason (I hope that never changes.

However he is also king of #8 his attitude drives me crazy!

  4. Thanks for the reminder to cherish the little years…even though they are driving me nuts! LOL.

  5. Now I'm sad thinking about my son as a tween. :/ My son is so loving, but I've noticed just since this school year started (he is almost 10) that he has a bit of an attitude already. ugh!

  6. My son is 8 and I try and give him lot's of hugs and kisses everyday cause I know there will come a day when he no longer will let me.

  7. I know exactly what you mean. My youngest is nearly 2 and it feels like yesterday that I was bringing him home from the hospital. The time just goes by so fast, you don't even realize. My little one is already trying to be independent and I miss the days when he was tiny.

  8. Oh goodness this sounds like my kids. I have three tweens, and my days are full of 'yeahs' and 'okays' and sass. Man, the sass. Luckily though my kids snuggle, a lot. I hope that lasts for a bit longer too.

  9. My oldest is almost 8 and a half and I'm starting to see her transform from kid to tween! I am determined to hang on for as long as possible.

  10. I am lucky that my soon to be teen started telling me he loved me again. Kisses are almost gone but my girl still gives me those LOL
