As a busy mom of boys, you love spending time with your guys. At the same time, if you are being totally honest with yourself, you also love it when September rolls around and they head back to school.
You love and need the break that school provides, but you also don’t want to spend all of your free time puttering around the house. Ideally, you’d like to find a job that is flexible—so you can still volunteer in your boys’ classrooms and pick them up after school—but still gives you the opportunity to make some much-needed money.
Fortunately, there are plenty of options for moms like you, who want to bring in an income without committing to a full time job that requires a commute, day care costs and not being there for your sons when the school day is over.
Become an At-Home Customer Service Representative
If the house seems almost too quiet with the boys back in school, fill the silence with some customer service work. All you need is a phone and internet access, along with a knack for communicating with others. Plenty of companies hire remote CSRs to take orders and answer questions—you can check Remote.co or Indeed.com for job listings and work during school hours.
Get Into Direct Sales
Another great way to earn some cash when the boys are in class is through direct sales. For instance, if you become an Independent Business Owner with a company like Amway, you can work on your own schedule, set up your own business online and make money selling their products to others. If you are intrigued by this idea but are also not sure if Amway is a scam or not, please rest assured that it’s not. Unlike pyramid scheme companies that pay you to recruit others, Amway does not operate like this. If you have always wanted to own your own business, working in direct sales is a great and flexible way to get your entrepreneurial feet wet.
Work at the School
For moms who would rather get out of the house to earn money, but still want to be there for their kids after class, working at their school could be a viable option. Many schools need teacher’s aides, playground supervisors, crossing guards and other people to work throughout the school day. If you were a teacher prior to having kids, you might also look into becoming a substitute teacher and taking jobs at your sons’ school and also nearby campuses with the same hours. Start by speaking with the front office staff, who probably already know you quite well, and explain that you are looking for work—they may advise you to meet with the principal and/or apply for current positions that would exactly match your boys’ schedule.
Flex Your Freelance Skills
A terrific way to find jobs that you can do on your own schedule is through a website like Upwork.com. This site lets busy business owners who need help with projects to post jobs; they can range from freelance writing work and accounting to designing and more. You can set up your profile right on the website and once it is approved, you can start applying for work through the site. While you probably won’t find jobs that pay a ton of money through this type of portal, it will give you the flexibility you crave without making you commit to an ongoing gig with another company.
Enjoy Earning Money on Your Time
It is great to know that you can earn money without having to take on a traditional 9-to-5 job. By looking into at-home jobs you can do on your own time, and/or working at a school, you can make money while your boys are in school and be finished with your work when the final bell rings.
