BlackBerry PlayBook – The Perfect Tool for Back to School + Giveaway

School has been back in session here for a few weeks now and my oldest headed off to middle school this year. Wait, did I just write that? Ugh. I can’t believe I have a child in 6th grade. School is nothing like it was when I was younger. There seems to be so much more to keep up with now and to top it all off, there is a strong focus on technology as well. That is where the BlackBerry PlayBook 4G LTE comes in. We were given the chance to review it, and it has proven itself to be quite the handy tool in keeping Joshua’s schedule, assignments and notes in order for school. Check it out…

{About the BlackBerry PlayBook}

“The powerful and ultra-portable BlackBerry PlayBook combines convenient and portable size with multifaceted functionality, making the reasonably priced tablet a great option for both students and teachers dedicated to maximizing productivity while on-the-go. The 7-inch tablet is small enough to fit in a backpack or purse, while the high-definition screen offers study-break entertainment or last-minute in-class tutorials.

 Like the best educators, the BlackBerry PlayBook’s multi-tasking capabilities support several activities at a time, and the BlackBerry PlayBook comes preloaded with a full documents suite for easy editing and document creation.”

{From a Student’s Perspective}

Joshua loved having a new electronic device to play around with, but aside from that, it has really helped him get organized which is a big problem we have had in the past. He can organize notes, keep track of homework assignments in the “My Class Schedule” app I downloaded from the huge app selection, and can even record a class session to take notes later if needed. Here is a short video he did discussing the different ways he uses the PlayBook.

{From a Parent’s Point of View}

I’d be lying if I said I never used the BlackBerry PlayBook myself. Parents have to have some fun too right? I never thought anything would come close to the iPad for me. I had tried other tablets in the past and they were all sort of a disappointment. I have to tell you though, I prefer the PlayBook over the iPad 100% now. Yes, it is smaller at only 7 inches, but there are so many awesome things about it and it is so much easier to operate and navigate.

You can multitask and have many different programs open at once. It is a simple swipe of your hand to move between program, windows, etc. The keyword is smaller, but just as easy to type on and there is an actual document program.

You can actually create documents, spreadsheets and even edit Power Point presentations right from the tablet. I could never do that on the iPad. Another cool feature is the Print to Go application. You can actually send documents, etc. straight from your computer to the PlayBook.

It syncs up all my contact’s information, allows me to have my email accounts all in one place and perhaps my favorite feature is the ability to put different apps into folders! You can actually nest apps together for a cleaner screen view. The Internet surfing is super fast and I have yet to find an app that was not available in the huge selection in the PlayBook’s App World.

The camera on the PlayBook could not be more perfect either and is great for when I am out on blog events or family outings and don’t want to drag along the DSLR. It has a 5 MP rear and 3 PM front facing camera, and even shoots HD videos!

Then of course, there is the fact that I absolutely love that it can help my child with school. Okay, truthfully I really want to steel it for myself.

  1. It being free for me because I won it!! Honestly, I don't even have a smartphone so I know nothing about touchscreen computing so all of it is exciting.

  2. This Playbook sounds wonderful. There's a number of features that I really like. I like that you can multi-task and switch between screens. I like the print to go, the camera and internet access. Honestly, we've been looking into different devices for our kids for their school and this one sounds very interesting and much more reasonable than an iPad.
    Thanks for this giveaway.

  3. I have 3 kids with ADHD, the oldest in 7th grade. His difficulty with organization, focus and attention make school very stressful. I love that he could record a class to reference when attention problems interfere with his ability to get everything the teacher says the first time. And keeping track of assignments would be a snap! What a great way to use a tablet, and what a great tool the Playbook is! Thanks for the review!

  4. I love that it is so portable and I can take photos with it as well as surf the web on it. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

  7. I love that it can help organize assignments for the kids. It seems like every week there is an assignment that gets worked on at the very last minute because it has been forgotten.

  8. My favorite feature is that you can edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files right from your tablet with Documents To Go.

  9. Many things, but I think the most interesting is doing document and also you said it is better than an IPad- I find the Ipad somewhat frustrating too that it lacks an easy keyboard and the Blackberry sounds like it solves some of these problems.

  10. I really like the sound of the features that allow you to create documents, spreadsheets and even edit Power Point presentations right from the tablet. With my iPad I find that not having this function can be really frustrating and limiting, especially when I'm trying to do things for school. I'd rather carry around a lighter tablet device than my laptop to accomplish these tasks at college.

  11. I like that you can create documents and put apps in folders for better organization.

  12. The camera and the screen size! Being partially blind, it's hard to do anything on those smaller screens! Being able to take pictures AND have a larger screen to look at them with would be fantastic πŸ™‚

  13. I love that it lets you make documents my oldest son gets all his notes lost or something, and the dictiony is also nice.

  14. Blackberry Playbook sounds wonderful.. it would be a good companion to my blackberry 8520 and have them to use in my work πŸ™‚

  15. I love that it syncs up with everything, makes transferring my current info so much easier

  16. I love that you can record a class or meeting for later playback! Gosh, I wish I would have had something like this in college!

  17. having several apps at once, because thatΒ΄s how I work on my computer. I always have a thousand things opened. I multitask, lol. And, the camera. I am wondering about the quality, specially for video.

  18. My laptop is hanging by a thread (seriously, there is a small metal thread that is holding the screen to the keyboard) and I am interested in doing everything with the play book, but love that I can create documents in it, since I love to write.

  19. The ability to keep organized, right now I have nothing like this to help me out. (My phone is worthless for keeping track of anything)

  20. With a daughter about to go off to college, it seems like it would be a helpful tool. I have an iPad, but with the Miltitasking capabilities, the sync, and the ability to send documents to the Playbook from a computer seems like an all in one solution to me! Great Review!

  21. The ability to create documents, and power point presentations, so I can bring it to my college classes. It's light enough to carry, but does all the necessary function to get my notes taken without breaking my back carrying it to class, and breaking my hand trying to keep up with the teacher.

  22. Docs to go and the file cabinet for my picture files. Much more convenient to show clients than a laptop which batteries are usually dead. Always don't have laptop handy but this I can carry everywhere.

  23. I love the portability! We are always running all over with the kids' sports! Thanks for the contest! This is @dublrs on Twitter

  24. This is great! I love the fact that you can put in your class schedule. And I love that it has music, camera, calculator, & dictionary options. I'm starting college soon and I'm getting tested for dyscalculia & ADD so you have NO idea how helpful this would be!!

  25. I love that you can actually create documents! I don't know how many times I've had to start a draft on something, only to find out that I couldn't get on the computer for a while but I don't wanna lose my creative thought!

  31. I am most excited about the camera on it. That seems pretty neat and my first generation ipad doesn't have a camera at all.

    I've been wanting a tablet for a while now so that I don't have to lug my laptop around everywhere. Most of the time I just want to be able to browse the internet or watch videos so I've been told that tablets are perfect for that.

  35. I really like that you can multitask with this and having a camera is really great too. wilcarvic

  36. I love the ability to create documents. That is another reason I wouldn't need to lug around my laptop.
