Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday in the history of all holidays. I love everything about it and the earlier I can start decking the halls, the better. Each year I try to do a few different DIY projects that help add to our ever growing collection of decorations, and this year I started with a fun ornament. This cinnamon stick cloth Christmas tree ornament craft can be made with any fabric or ribbon remnants you have laying around the house. It’s easy to make, and you can even get the kids involved making one of their own.

With this craft, it is easy to work some memories into the mix as well. Some of the cloth in my cinnamon stick ornament is from dresses that I wore to my high school formal dances many years ago. I retrieved the scraps from my mom and used some of them to make this ornament for a keepsake. You could do the same with old baby clothes, t-shirts, etc.

Step 1: Begin by cutting various different fabrics and ribbon scraps into thin straight lines.

Step 2: Start at the bottom of the cinnamon stick and tie on the scraps of fabric and ribbon, alternating various patterns and colors as you work your way up the cinnamon stick. Double knot the scraps as you tie them on so that they do not come loose later. Also, be sure to leave a small space at the bottom of the cinnamon stick and at the top as well.

Step 3: Once you have tied on your scraps and ribbon. Use scissors to trim them into the shape of a triangle, where they are longer at the bottom and get shorter as you move to the top. You can see the photo for reference.

Step 4: Using a hot glue gun, attach a large button to the top of your Christmas tree ornament in the space left empty at the top of the cinnamon stick.

Step 5: Turn the ornament over, and use the glue gun to attach a loop of ribbon to the back of the cinnamon stick so that it forms a hanger for you to hang your ornament with.
