DIY Tissue Paper Luminaries

tissue paper luminaries

As the Halloween decorations come down, I find myself searching for inexpensive fall decorations that can even carry on into Christmas. I took an idea I saw on Martha Stewart and turned it into these DIY tissue paper luminaries. Not only are they quick and easy to make, but it only cost $7 for all three! The tutorial is below, but if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments below.

Materials:

1 Pack of multi-patterned or colored tissue paper. The thicker the better.
3 Tall votive candle holders
3 Candles or electronic candles. I picked up these battery operated candles at the Dollar Tree for $1.
Tape
Scissors

Step 1: Cut a strip of tissue paper from the color you want on the bottom of your votive holder. Fold up the bottom edge of the strip to form a smooth edge for the bottom of the holder. Use tape to fix it to the bottom of the holder as pictured above.

Step 2: Do the same as step one with the second color of tissue paper. Be sure to fold the bottom of the strip up a bit to form that smooth edge.

Step 3: Repeat step 1 with the last color of tissue paper, but this time, make a fold on the bottom and top of the strip of paper as pictured above. This created a smooth edge for where the tissue strips meet and for the top of the votive holder as well.

Step 4: Place the candles inside the holders and enjoy!

  1. What a neat idea and I love how they turned out. It doesn't hurt that it was a super cheap project as well.
