Month 5 of the Shaklee 180 blogger program is coming to an end. Unfortunately, there is only a month left in the program, and I am just starting to pick up steam. The topic this month is about support, but I think we often overlook the fact that often the best form of support can come from ourselves. By looking at ourselves for support and drive, we can ensure that we do not depend on others to make our weight loss journey successful. There is no room to say “If only so and so was more supportive, I could really make some progress.” Nope, you need to learn to help you help yourself if you really hope to be successful in your weight loss endeavours, but how?

1. Build a Support and Motivation Board on Pinterest

Let’s face it, we are all pretty much Pinterest junkies anyways (go ahead, try to deny it.) So, why not get some support and weight loss motivation for all the time we are pinning the day away. Start a board and pin ides for workouts and supportive quotes to it. Every time you are feeling weak or like you need some extra support, just click your mouse on your support board on Pinterest.

2. Compliment Yourself

No, I don’t mean go around muttering to yourself in public like a lunatic, but complimenting yourself can be a great form of personal support whether you realize it or not. Keep a piece of paper on your fridge. Every morning when you go to make breakfast, write down one thing on that paper that you love about yourself for that day. It can be how you noticed your arms are looking more toned, or how you said no to that cookie after dinner the night before. Just a little bit of support to help you feel good about yourself and your weight loss decision.

3. Keep a Food Journal

Part of support during weight loss is being held accountable. If you are relying on yourself for support, keeping an honest food journal can really help in that area. Be sure to write down every single thing that you plan to eat before you eat it. You will be amazed at how often you change your mind on your food choices. It is easy to just pop a brownie in your mouth, but it becomes harder when you have to write down that you are eating it before you actually do.

  1. Keeping the food journal is such a good thing to do for oneself when trying to lose weight. I notice that whenever I stop doing that…the pounds start to creep on. I think Pedometers/Exercise counters something like that is something one can do for themselves that supports too, whenever I see how many calories I've burned or steps I've walked, I'm motivated to keep going.

  2. My husband supports me but not quite how I'd like. Supporting myself has come to be what I expect. Food journals, pedometers… both good things.

  3. I pretty much have to tune everyone out when I'm in weight loss mode because unless everyone else is in the same mode, they make it tough!

  4. Food journaling has helped me incredibly. I can't wait to see your before and after!

  5. Pinterest is a great idea! I'm very visual so being able to look at a lot of inspiration in one glance would probably work wonders for me.

  6. I need to get back into keeping a food journal — that really, REALLY is key for me staying accountable.

  7. I've been slacking lately, but as long as I weigh less at the end of each year than at the start, it was a good year.
