Move Over Fat Monday – Ignoring the Scale

I am a serial weigher. I weigh myself every single morning. I can’t help it and am realizing that it is just an unhealthy practice. Before the middle of last week I had an idea that I was not going to see a loss on the scale this week and I tried to prepare myself for it. When I stepped on the scale yet again this morning and saw that I had actually gained almost a half of a pound, I was still upset. So, now begins my journey to try and ignore the scale.

{What Happened?}

I am not sure why I didn’t have a loss this week. I did take two days without exercise this week, one being yesterday because I was too busy running errands to get ready for our trip that starts today. The other days I worked out an hour or more. I also followed the Shaklee 180 plan just like I am supposed to and stayed within my calories each day. The only thing I can think is that I built some muscle, because I did add strength and weight training back into my routine with this week. I also was successful in losing more inches, so this leads me to believe that I did gain some muscle too. I will have to wait until next week to see what the scale says. For now, I am trying to ignore it.


So, I don’t have a scale picture this morning because my camera is already packed away in the car. I am headed down to Orlando in a little bit for a Spring Break trip with the boys. I am taking my Shaklee 180 products, so I don’t see a reason I won’t be able to stay on track and will be exercising in our resort room. I gained .4 pounds this week on the scale, but there were inches lost.

Weight Lost since 2/18: 7 lbs.

  1. It is a marathon, not a sprint! You are doing great. Any fun activities you can use your more toned body for on vacation? Long swim maybe? Salsa dancing? Have a blast!

  2. I understand. I put a lot of stock in the number on the scale too. For women especially it is such a 'subjective' number since it can be effected by so much that's going on in our lives when we stand on the scale. I'm so excited to see your progress though, remember slow and steady wins the race!

  3. I weigh myself every day, it actually helps keep me motivated because I can see that I am losing ounces, even if I don't lose pounds. I also like that I can see if I've gained, because it reminds me to stop "cheating" and eating badly! Sometimes we just hit a plateau, it's normal. Just keep doing what you're doing and it will turn around 🙂

  4. I'm famous for getting on the scale every morning too. If I feel like I'm at a stand still I try to focus on whether my clothes feel like they're fitting better. If they are then mission accomplished. Enjoy your time with the boys!

  5. I avoid the scale like the plague! Seriously, if I am dieting and working out constantly, I get too obsessed with numbers.

  6. Thanks ladies! Heather, we already went running around the resort and it is huge. We also went swimming for hours and I had a blast going down the huge water slides. Something I am confident enough to do now. 🙂

  7. This is exactly what I need to do… ignore the scales. It's just that I have this magical number in my head and I want to see it so badly on the scales that I've become a bit obsessed with it. I know it's not good for me. I have gotten that I only weigh myself on Monday mornings, but it really is a struggle every time I go into my bathroom and see the scales. :/ Hang in there, you are doing great! I was up this past week, too.

  8. Avoiding the magic number is such a difficult thing to do, but take it from me, a person recovering from a true scale obsession (I'm talking every morning for months and a gain would ruin my entire day, leave me in tears, etc)

    There is so much more to look into than a ridiculous number!

  9. I need to forget about the scale – but gosh darn it! Every time I go in the bathroom there it is looking up at me.

  10. This has ALWAYS been an issue with me but when I was on Medifast I was able to curb it and weigh once a week it was tough but so much more rewarding.

  11. I know what you mean, I keep my scale in the closet NOT the bathroom and limit my weighing to once a week, same day as soon as I wake up and ONLY that once.

  12. I'm also a habitual weigher (I totally know that it is not a word) and I get upset when I don't see a loss every day.

  13. I too weight my self every morning Lol so bad i know it. I also have been really bad with exericising and eating healthy about 3 weeks now I really need to get back on my program.

  15. I weigh in most days. You just have to keep a mindset of your average weight over a group of days & account for things like water retention & having a large meal late the day before.
